Verndale Visitor Information

The Verndale Community:  Verndale, MN is a small town that was built around the Northern Pacific Railroad.  The community of Verndale was settled as early as 1876, with some of the first settlers being Civil War Veterans.

Today, some of the leading areas of business include horse sales, agriculture, and manufactured housing.  Being located on the busy Highway 10 makes it a convenient place to stop on your way as you travel.

Some highlights of the Verndale Community include a K-12 public school, busy restaurants, nine area churches, a post office, a police department, camping and parks, and other notable businesses and sites.


McNair Park:  McNair Park is a small park named after General Lesley J. McNair, who was, along with one other lieutenant general, the highest ranking officer in the U.S. Army to be killed in combat during WWII.  The park has a playground and a picnic shelter, and adds beauty within the business area of Verndale.

Verndale Historical Society:  The Verndale Historical Society holds books, photographs, and artifacts donated by area residents.  It is open at select times during the summer, and may also hold private tours for groups.  For more information, you can check out their website.

Knob Hill Campsite:  Knob Hill Campsite is unique in the fact that it has both an upper and lower level site.  The upper level has a more forested and secluded view, while the lower level has more of the river view.  This campsite is county-owned, and it is about 3 miles from the next campsite along the Crow Wing.

Cottingham County Park:  Cottingham County Park is a 54-acre, county owned park near Verndale.  It is very popular for picnicking and swimming, but also has many trails  that can be used for hiking, ATV riding, and horseback riding.  It is close to Wahoo value, which makes it a popular place to land tubes, canoes, and kayaks.  The next available landing is about 5.5 miles along the river.

The Anchor Christian Youth Center:  The Anchor Christian Youth Center is a place for students during the school year to study, do homework, and hang out with friends.  It is open during the school year for students ages 7-12.  The facility has 2 computers, air hockey, ping pong, pool, and foosball.  For more information, you can check out verndalealliance.org.

Bullseye Bar & Grill:  Bullseye Bar & Grill is a fairly new establishment that began in 2008.  It has an extensive menu, and is conveniently located on Hwy 10 in Verndale.  It has a bar area, a dining area, two different private rooms, a pool table, arcade games, and a sand volleyball court.  Bullseye is open Mon-Thurs from 11am-10pm, Fri-Sat from 11am-1am, and Sun from 11am-10pm.  For more information, you can check out their Facebook page.

Verndale Railroad:  The Verndale Railroad first came through the community in 1872.  This railroad has been one of the most important factors of the town’s establishment.  It has held two different depots for the convenience of incoming settlers.  For more information, you can check out Verndale’s city website.    

Verndale Liquor Store:  The Verndale Liquor Store is located on Farwell Street, and is a popular place for entertainment in the area.  It sells both on-sale and off-sale, and occasionally has karaoke entertainment.  The bar is open from 11am-closing, Monday-Saturday.  For more information, you can check out the bar’s Facebook page.

Yesteryear’s Café:  Yesteryear's Cafe is a popular place to buy a great meal and enjoy some ice cream.  It is conveniently located on Farwell Street in Verndale.  Saturday-Tuesday and Thursday hours are 7am-2pm, Wednesday hours are 7am-7pm, and Friday hours are 7am-8pm.  For more information, you can contact the café at 218-445-5143.     

Burger Depot:  Burger Depot is a new business in the town of Verndale that just opened on April 1, 2013.  This new establishment offers burgers, hot dogs, and other traditional American and fast food options.  Monday-Thursday and Saturday hours are 10:30am-7:30pm, and Friday hours are 10:30am-8:30pm.  For more information, you can check out the Depot’s Facebook page.

Men’s Amateur Baseball:  The Verndale Bison are part of the Lake & Pine South Division for amateur baseball.  Games are held on weekends in the summertime, and offer a great source of afternoon fun and entertainment.  The team shares Anderson Park with the Verndale High School baseball team.  For more information, you can check out the team’s website or contact manager Jim Runyan at 218-445-5853.

R & J Horse Sales and Event Center:  R & J Horse Sales and Event Center is a popular place for auctions and horse shows.  Each year in February they hold a well known rodeo that brings in competitors from all over the country.  For more information, you can check out the event center’s website.

A Bit of Tack:  A Bit of Tack is a great store to buy a wide variety of horse apparel.  It is conveniently located next to R & J Horse Sales and Event Center.  Store Hours are Monday-Saturday from 9am-5pm, and summer hours are Monday-Saturday from 9am-6pm.  For more information, you can check out the store’s website.


Churches:

St. Frederick's Catholic Church in Verndale is located on Hwy 10.  St. Frederick’s is part of the Diocese of St. Cloud, and Father Arlie Sowada is the pastor.  Mass times are at 7 pm on Saturdays and 9 am on Wednesdays.  Mass times switch seasonally with neighboring parishes of St. Hubert's in Bluegrass (located near Sebeka) and Assumption of Our Lady in Menahga.  For more information, you can check out vbmcatholic.org.

Central United Methodist Church is located on County Road 26 near Verndale.  It has worship at 9am on Sundays, and has Sunday School at 10:30am on Sundays.

Verndale Family Life Church is located on Clark Drive in Verndale.  It has worship times at 10:30am on Sundays and 6:15pm on Wednesdays.  Prayer service is held at 6pm on Sundays.  Active Pastors are Amos Self and Kenny Kjeldergaard.  For more information, you can check out the church’s website.

Verndale Alliance Church is located on Brown Street in Verndale.  It has church service at 9:30am on Sundays, followed by coffee time, and then Bible fellowship classes for all ages.  Junior High and Senior High Youth Group classes are held on Wednesdays from 6:30pm-8pm at the Anchor Youth Center.  Worship is led by Senior Pastor Tony Stanley.  For more information, you can check out the church’s website.

Hope Chapel Church is located on County Road 7 outside of Verndale.  Worship is held at 9am on Sundays, and is lead by Pastor Makela.  Sunday School follows at 10:30, and Family Night is at 7:30pm on Wednesdays.  For more information, you can contact the church at 218-445-5643.
